Sandaoling Town, Xinjiang

The entire San Dao Ling coal mine is now only left with the town area inhabited, and there is some commerce. Locals also refer to it as Xi Gong Di.

Walking down the main street of the town, you might not feel anything unusual. You might think it is just an ordinary, sparsely populated town in Xinjiang.

But through aerial photography, you will discover that even the relatively most bustling San Dao Ling Town has large areas of single-story houses, with vast regions nearing abandonment.

Perhaps in another decade or so, it might end up deserted like Nan Quan and Hou Yao.
