San Dao Ling is one of the few places in the country where steam locomotives may be the only ones still in use. By the end of 2021, there were about three locomotives still active in the open-pit mine.

Due to the epidemic, I did not see any foreign tourists. The weather is not very cold yet, so the effect of steam is not obvious.

In fact, steam locomotives have long been ready for retirement. The parts of the locomotives have long ceased production, and now they can only be replaced by dismantling parts from abandoned locomotives. In my opinion, the main reason for retaining steam locomotives is to keep these train drivers busy. When they retire, steam locomotives will be phased out.
