Located in the Number Five structure belt of Cold Lake Oilfield, hence the name. It is southeast of Number Four of Cold Lake, about 15 kilometers away, and serves as the base for oil extraction, drilling, and refining for the Petroleum Administration Bureau. The hydroelectric plant is also located here. Number Five has only one east-west street, about 2.5 kilometers long, where shops, banks, and cinemas are located. The formation of the town began in 1957. After 1958, dormitories and offices with wooden structures were built. It was only around the 1980s that a few brick and wood-structured houses were constructed, but no buildings were ever built. The town covers an area of about 2.5 square kilometers and had a population of 7,700 in 1990.
From the current Cold Lake town, take the Mars Highway, and you will reach here not far away. Number Five base has the largest ruins.
We camped here that night and even found books from the early 1990s beneath the surface soil inside the houses.
