Sangpi Temple is located on a hillside near the town of Xiangcheng, with the main hall and monks' residences arranged in sequence.

Something interesting happened during our visit. The lama in the temple told us that their Tulku was in the United States and that they still had frequent contact with him.

We asked, "Why is the Tulku here in the United States?" The lama talked for a long time but could not make it clear.

Later, we went back to the village to ask the villagers. They expressed great respect for him as well. But when asked why he was not in China, the villagers began to pretend not to understand.

So, I did some research and figured out the reason.

It turns out that this Tulku refers to the Fourth Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche. His previous life, the Third Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, was the teacher of the current 14th Dalai Lama and had a profound influence on him. After the Dalai Lama fled to India, he followed him there. He later passed away in India and was reincarnated in India. This is why the Fourth Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche is not in China.

The lama and villagers apparently knew all this, but they dared not tell a group of unfamiliar Han Chinese about this sensitive history.
