Dunhuang Solar Thermal Power Plant

In the western part of Dunhuang, there is a solar thermal power plant with a beam of light that can be seen from a great distance.

Thousands of mirrors focus sunlight onto a central thermal tower, melting a certain type of salt inside and using the heat to generate electricity. The advantage of this method is that it can generate electricity at night, but the downside is that the cost and efficiency are not as good as solar panels.
