Entering Tibet via the Sichuan-Tibet line, both Litang and Markam have extremely high altitudes, reaching as high as 3800 meters. In contrast, Batang sits much lower at only 2500 meters, which generally prevents altitude sickness. Therefore, Batang has become the preferred accommodation spot for travelers entering Tibet.

However, since we were coming from the Tibetan area and had already acclimated to the high altitude, we did not stay in Batang. Instead, we spent the night in Markam and Litang.

Passing through Batang, we stopped for a rest and took a few photos.

Few people might think that the infamous Batang uprising once took place here. Zhao Erfeng used harsh measures, killing many people to maintain the Qing Dynasty's rule.

However, ten years later, facing the surging Railway Protection Movement, he resorted to the same old methods. This time, it did not save the Qing Dynasty's rule but instead cost him his own life.
